Fresh local oysters, craft brews, and live music = the perfect fall night!
We held the second Annual Oyster Roast for the Coast on October 4th at Surf City Brewing Company to celebrate the purchase and conservation of The Point, now known as the South Topsail Preserve. We are indebted to the NC Coastal Land Trust who purchased the property last April and now serves as the owner and manager of the property, until it transfers to the N.C. Division of Coastal Management sometime next year.
It was a wonderful, beautiful evening with over 70 people attending and enjoying great food by N. Sea Oyster Company, Waterman’s Choice, and Fusion Blue Cuisine food truck, beverages by Surf City Brewing company, music by Doug McFarland, a special photo raffle by Gavin Shwahla, and information about oyster recycling by the NC Coastal Federation. A special thanks goes out to Surf City Brewing Company for hosting the event again this year and providing its signature beer and beverages!

Michele Rivest, President of the Board of Directors of Conserve The Point – Topsail welcomed everyone and reminded us all that buying and conserving this special property was just the first step: now the work of protection and conservation continues. It’s up to us – the entire community – to do all that we can to keep The Point wild, serene and pristine for all future generations of people and wildlife.
Conserve The Point-Topsail is the on-the-ground, all volunteer organization that is partnering with the Coastal Land Trust on the South Topsail Stewards program and Audubon on its bird nesting program and signage. We also supported the Town Topsail Beach annual beach sweep program collecting trash and debris. The community is a vital part of the effort to care for The Point every day. Sign up on website to volunteer with these programs.
We’ll be hosting more events and special education programs later this year. You can learn more about our work on our website and follow us on social media.
And we plan to make the Oyster Roast an annual event too. See you next year at this event!
